Weimaraners Dog Breeds

The first dog on our most intelligent dog breeds ranking, the Weimaraner is the first of many hunting breeds that are going to be on this list of 20 intelligent dogs. Weimaraners specialized in hunting small game. They were often used in the English fox hunt but also used for rabbits and birds.

They are also excellent tracking dogs with strong stamina, so once they get a scent, they will follow it for an extended period of time. You need to make sure when you let your Weimaraner off the leash that they don’t get out of listening distance for you to call for them. If they do, they’re likely to continue to follow the scent they were chasing. This can lead to lost dogs and many hours spent searching while you hope to find your pup. If you’re going to get a hunting breed like the Weimaraner, it’s not a bad idea to consider microchip inclusion and registration.

Ownership Considerations Breeds

Weimaraners are not loners. They are a breed that always wants to be with their master. If they are alone for too long, they will often act out and this can be destructive or lead to other poor behaviors like jumping and intense barking/whining. This means that if you are going to get a Weimaraner you need to be prepared to spend a lot of time with your dog.
