How Pet Parents Feel About Their Dogs

Nothing is quite like the bond between a pet parent and their pup, and a new report from Purina reveals just how deep this connection goes.

The 2018 Pets and People Survey by Just Right by Purina surveyed more than 1,000 dog owners about their relationship with their pooch and how this affects their everyday lives.

“Having dogs myself, I know firsthand that the emotional connection between dog owners and their pets runs deep,” said Julia Pitlyk, brand manager for Just Right by Purina. “We conducted this survey to learn more about what exactly the owner-dog relationship looks like and while each relationship provides that deep connection, the results really support our belief that every dog is unique – some may be confidants while others are effective wingmen.”

According to the report, an overwhelming 95 percent of respondents viewed their as a member of the family. After a stressful day, 62 percent said that their pup has helped them unwind, while 55 percent believe their dog has provided emotional support after bad news.

      Other key findings include:

      • Dogs have helped 15 percent of men successfully attract the attention of a woman.

      • Half of female respondents said they preferred to spend time with their dog more than their partner or other family members.

      • Fifty-four percent of surveyed millennials (ages 18 to 34) said they purchased a birthday cake for their pup.

      • Approximately 77 percent of millennial respondents said they feed their dogs before eating themselves.

A survey from Purina explores the bond between dogs and their owners.
